Who invented the typewriter machine?

The first practical typewriter was invented by Christopher Latham Sholes, Carlos Glidden, and Samuel W. Soule in 1867. The three men worked together to develop the machine, which was initially called the "Type-Writer" and later became known simply as the "typewriter." The first commercial version of the typewriter, known as the "Sholes and Glidden Type-Writer," was manufactured by the E. Remington and Sons company in 1873. The design of the typewriter was patented by Sholes, Glidden and Soule on July 14, 1868. The patent covered not just the machine, but also the QWERTY keyboard layout that is still used on most English-language typewriters and computer keyboards today.
